“Nobody in Charlotte has sold more houses than TeamHeidi.” Hello! My name is Heidi Hines. I am originally from Melbourne Florida. My family later moved to Miami when I was about 10 years old, my family consisted of mom, dad, my older sister and myself. I went to public schools and after high school, I attended Florida International University where I received my Bachelors of Science in Hospitality Management, translation, hotel restaurant managment. At 21 years of age, how was I supposed to know what I wanted to do with the rest of my life? After graduation, I came to Charlotte, NC for a job opportunity in the food and beverage industry. I held several positions with major hotel and restaurant chains. I had left Charlotte for several occasions for other opportunities, but in the end, always returned to Charlotte. I love living in Charlotte! It's clean, it has plenty of green spaces, the people are friendly and we have four mild seasons! After living in a few other major cities, I really knew the difference. I got married when I was in my early 30's and I had just begun my real estate career at that time. Unfortunately, the time that it took to be successful in real estate took a toll on my marriage and after two years it ended. After my first year and half in real estate, I realized I couldn’t continue a 15-hour-a-day pace much longer. Ironically, my solution to that career crisis has transformed me into one of the top home sellers in Charlotte. Nobody in Charlotte has sold more houses than my team. I give the credit to my team, but they all say it begins with me. The success boils down to making our clients and customers happy. A client once said to me, ‘You make me feel like I’m your only client.’ That’s what we try to do — but what they can’t see is that below the surface, sometimes we’re paddling like crazy. Among my initiatives, I’ve launched a staging service where my Accrediated Staging Professional adds inviting touches — and removes clutter — at homes my team is selling. My team also offers a 15-foot truck for buyers to use in moving, and a 12-foot-by-12-foot inflatable “bouncy house” for the kids to enjoy while Mom and Dad are lugging boxes. Ever the marketer, I’ve had the truck and playhouse decorated in the red, white and blue RE/MAX colors and emblazoned with the TeamHeidi logo, phone number and Web address. My print ads often feature coupons for using the truck or playhouse. The goal is to make the home-buying experience easy and fun for our cients. But that fun extends to the workplace as well. “Never a day goes by that she doesn’t break out in song in the middle of the office,” says John Green, broker associate. A mention of a doublewide mobile home, for example, might prompt Heidi to launch into Roger Miller’s King of the Road (“Trailers for sale or rent ...”). That lively atmosphere is a departure from my early days in the business. Beginning in real estate sales in 1998, I found myself beginning my workday at 6 a.m. and keeping at it until 11 p.m. The challenge of single-handedly finding leads, showing homes, handling closings and marketing myself quickly took its toll. I could not wear all the hats. I recalled thinking, “Why not delegate and get other people to help me?” That question led to the formation of TeamHeidi. I found an agent who didn't know how to create the business but was a good Realtor. She got busy and I added another Realtor to my team. Support staff came next and the rest is history! I rebranded my business as a team operation. To help motivate the team in 2004, I made my crew this promise: If TeamHeidi met its sales goal for the year, I would take them — and their spouses — on a five-day Caribbean cruise. In February 2005, the entourage sailed from Key West, Fla., to the Bahamas. Its tradition now that when the team makes the goal, we all go on a trip…my treat! In the late 1990's, I remarried to a wonderful man, Jim Pollak. Jim has a daughter from a previous marriage named Addie. Addie was just graduating from high school and beginning at The College of Charleston when Jim and I met. Our courtship was short at only 3 months. Jim worked for Duke Energy for 20 plus years. I always joked with him saying my hours as a Realtor were crazy and that if he wanted to spend time with me, he would need to quit his job at Duke and get his real estate license. I was shocked when he did. Even Addie, after working summers off from college in my office and graduating, is now a Realtor on my team. Jim and I live at Lake Norman with our German Shepherd, Sassy and our Maine Coon cat named Tiger. As leader of RE/MAX Executive Realty’s TeamHeidi, we sold over 400 homes in 2006, with those sales valued at over $70 million — tops in the market. And those sales, mark the fifth consecutive year that my team has led local RE/MAX sales. Again, in 2007 we surpassed the others in our market and we are currently working on 2008!
